Redbelly node operator support

Need help hosting a node on Redbelly Network? Let's answer some frequently asked questions.

Node hosting FAQs

How do I setup and onboard my node?

All the information you need to setup and onboard a network node can be found in the Node Operator Guide.

Do I need specific equipment to host a node?

Yes, operating a Redbelly node requires a setup that meets a set of technical requirements along with some applicable knowledge and experience.

Please review the hardware and system requirements for specific details and information.

Do I need specific skills or experience to host a node?

Yes, operating a Redbelly node requires applicable knowledge and experience with applicable hardware and software management, such as:

  • DNS (Domain Name System) configuration

  • VPS (Virtual Private Server) setup

  • Linux command line syntax

How are node operators incentivised on Redbelly?

Node operators are incentivised with a signup bonus, staking rewards, and a portion of gas fees.

Learn more:

How do incentives differ for governor and candidate nodes?

For the signup bonus and staking rewards, there is no difference. However, because governors are contributing additional compute resources by participating in consensus, they are further compensated with twice the portion of gas fees compared to candidates.

Learn more:

Will the network shut my node down if it is demoted from demoted to candidate?

No. Your node will continue to run normally as a candidate.

How long between reconfiguration periods?

Initially, two weeks. Redbelly reserves the right to change this in the future based on feedback and what is deemed best for network health.

Learn more:

How are my rewards, incentives, and gas fees distributed to me?

They will be sent to the public address that you provide (for receiving them) at the time of registering your node.

Learn more:

What is the expected network size at mainnet launch?

At mainnet launch we expect 200 candidates and 50 governors. This will grow over time.

Learn more:

Do I need to do anything to upgrade/downgrade my node?

No, the reconfiguration process will automatically take care of upgrading and downgrading your node.

It is important to note that if your node is found to be behaving deliberately maliciously, the network reserves the right to take action including downgrading your node, slashing your stake, and banning you from the network.

Learn more:

If my node is classified as jailed, will I still receive the block reward?

No. Once jailed, your stake will be slashed 20% and you will not receive the block reward.

Learn more:

What does it mean if my node is tombstoned?

If a node is tombstoned, it cannot automatically rejoin the network. Its entire stake will be slashed and the account will not be able to join the node.

The same node operator with the same identity could create a new account and rejoin the network manually.
